Rail Cluster member Muirhead, part of Scottish Leather Group, is hosting a Cluster networking event and site visit at its manufacturing facilities in Bridge of Weir and Dalmarnock.

Muirhead is a global supplier to some of the most respected companies across aviation, rolling stock, and luxury interiors, specialising in new build, refurbishment and upgrade programmes for rail interiors. With manufacturing based in Scotland, Muirhead has supplied the majority of train manufacturers, operators and seat makers, shipping products worldwide on a weekly basis.

Muirhead’s rail interior materials are designed to meet the demands of both operators and passengers. Their genuine leather solutions for passenger seating deliver premium comfort, enhanced cabin atmosphere, durability and hygiene, alongside a simple maintenance regime for operators. Their sustainable materials meet the latest EN45545:2 R21 2020 HL3 standards and are supported by market leading warranties, with full in-house fire testing capability.

Following major investment, Muirhead has also developed a new innovation, BioPRO, a lighter weight and customisable seating foam suitable for both new build and refurbishment applications, including use with existing and older seating systems. Manufactured in Scotland, BioPRO meets the toughest European rail fire standards while containing no bromine, melamine, PFAS or graphite, representing a significant step change in the rail seating foam sector.

The event will include a presentation from the Muirhead team, followed by discussion, a guided site tour and networking over lunch.

What attendees will see on the day:

  • The full manufacturing process of leather for rail interiors
  • Muirhead’s EN45545 fire testing facilities, including full seat fire testing
  • The newly opened BioPRO foam manufacturing facility, showcasing the latest innovation in rail seating materials manufactured in Scotland

This event offers a valuable opportunity to see Scottish rail manufacturing, testing and innovation capabilities first-hand, hear directly from the host company, and connect with fellow Rail Cluster members and industry stakeholders.
